An annual event is the Teddy Bears Picnic which we hold at the Ashford Baby Memorial Garden and in the grass area just next to it.  This is a free event open to anyone who has lost a baby as well as their families and friends and everyone is welcome.  Just bring yourselves, a blanket or chairs and a picnic!

While you don't have to book a space, it is useful to have an idea of numbers so please let us know via Facebook or email if you are planning to join us.

We usually arrange a children’s entertainer, facepainting, some fun games for the children, a few art options, and a chance to decorate special teddy bears or butterflies for our lovely ‘Memory Tree’ for you to write a message on.

BABY LOSS AWARENESS WEEK

Along with our beautiful Garden in Ashford, we take part in the annual Baby Loss Awareness Week activities from 9-15 October each year.

We try to arrange displays around baby loss and are always on the lookout for suitable places – perhaps a shop window, or a community building or library etc. If you have any ideas, please let us know.

We also encourage organisations to light up their buildings in blue and pink during the week.  Again, if you have any ideas of suitable buildings, please let us know, or better still ask them yourself.  And do let us know how you get on so that we can publicise them.

Last year the Royal Hotel, Folkestone and Whitstable Castle were among the local buildings that kindly agreed to light up their buildings for the week.

During Baby Loss Awareness Week we hold the Wave of Light.  This is an international event where on the 15th October candles are lit between 7 and 8pm creating a ‘Wave of Light’ across the globe.  For the past seven years we have held our event at the Ashford Baby Memorial Garden but due to increasing numbers we are looking at different options for this year, so please look out for more information.

Details of other events can be found on the BLAW website.
